MONTGOMERY – The National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) has selected Bill Newton, Alabama's Assistant Finance Director, to serve as president-elect of the national organization’s executive board. Newton will assume office this summer and become the organization’s president in 2009.
“Bill does an outstanding job for the State of Alabama,” said State Finance Director James Allen Main. “We’re delighted that the national organization that best understands state budgeting recognizes his talents. He will be an enormous asset to NASBO.”
In 2008, State Budget Officer Carolyn Middleton was recognized by NASBO as recipient of one of their highest honors, the George A. Bell Award. Named after the organization’s first full-time executive director, the award is bestowed upon an employee of a state budget office who has made an exceptional contribution to state budgeting and management.
NASBO has served as the professional membership organization for state finance officers for more than sixty years. NASBO is the instrument through which the states collectively advance state budget practices.
