About Us Top 10 in the Country...Again

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Sept 14, 2007 – For the fourth straight year, the web portal has been recognized as a Top 10 finalist for the Best of Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards.

“Our Information Services Division (ISD) continues to receive awards for their innovative solutions,” said James Allen Main, State Finance Director. “It’s amazing how far technology has come. Who would have thought just a few years ago that one could visit a website to renew everything from a State Bar license to an alligator-hunting permit, reserve a personalized car tag, check the status of an income tax refund and download recipes from Alabama’s First Lady? This website is definitely deserving of the national recognition gained in the past few years.”

The Best of Web is an annual awards program that recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals. This national awards program judges state, city and county websites on their innovation, web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy and functionality for improved citizen access.

The Digital Government Achievement Award is a national program that recognizes outstanding agency and department websites and applications that enhance information interactions, transactions and/or services. The categories include government-to-government, government-to-business, government-to-citizen, and government internal.

“We’re certainly proud to receive this prestigious award for the fourth year in a row. has become part of everyday life for many Alabamians, and it’s our goal to keep it up-to-date and easy to use,” stated Jim Burns, the State’s chief information officer. “In addition to handy information, there are now over 130 online services that citizens can use to save time and effort when dealing with their state government. It is our hope that they can spend less time in line and more time online.”

Cathilea Robinett, Center Executive Director of the Center, offered these enthusiastic words of praise. “2007 was an amazing year for our Best of Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards. The competition was fierce and there were many applications and portals that were top notch. Last year, 2.5 million visitors to the site viewed 13 million pages to take advantage of this innovative gateway to state government.
